STATEMENT BY PREMIER.
MAGNIFICENT RESPONSE.
SUM OF £100,000 EXPECTED.

Wellington, Tuesday.
The Prime Minister stated to-night at a Town Hall meeting that the contributions to the New Zealand Empire Defence Fund are coming in at the rate of £10,000 a Hay. Between the rising of tbo House and the commencement of the meeting between £5000 and £6000 had been received. "I believe," Mr. Masscy Baid, "that we shall raise a fund of £100,000 for the purpose of equipping our men and supplying them with horses."
