HERALD PATRIOTIC FUND.

A PROMPT RESPONSE.

CONTRIBUTIONS TOTAL £2442.

The Hebald Patriotic Fund has met with a prompt response from Auckland citizens. The Fund was opened for public subscriptions yesterday morning, and by 10 p.m., when the commercial office closed, the total had reached £2442. Almost the whole of the contributions have so far come from city subscribers, tho time since the announcement of the opening of the Fund being insufficient to enable returns to come to hand from the" wide country area over which the Herald circulates. Many of the donations received were accompanied by expressions of regret that the contributors are unable to give larger sumi. Ono contributor sends a day's pay, others promise help later should the necessity arise.

Contributions to the Herald PaiHuotio Fund may be sent to the Hebald Office, Auckland, or paid direct at the Hebald Office,, where a subscription list will be found. The amounts collected will from time to time be transferred to the Auckland Patriotic Fund.

There is no doubt that Auckland city and province will respond generously to tho calL Meantime it may be again urged upon readers that they can best help the Fund and the Empire by sending their contributions, whether large or small, by the first available mail.
