Six ships conveying 8000 stranded Americans have sailed for New York.

Fifteen thousand English and American tourists vare stranded in Switzerland. The French Government is sending special trains to convey them across France.

A pathetic incident occurred in Paris to-day. A great crowd, including many 1870 veterans, removed the crepe with which the Strasburg Statue had been swathed for 40 years.

The ceremony was characterised by the utmost dignity. Tho crowd was subdued in its applause, and was intensely moved.
