COMPETITIVE DEBATE.
The second round of the competition of the Auckland Literary and Debating Union was held in the Training College Hall last night, between Y.M.C.A. B team and Training College, upon the subject, "That the Existence of a Second Chamber as a Political Institution is not Desirable." The affirmative was taken by Training Collftge, represented by Messrs. Price, Bishop, and Coldham, and the negative by Y.M.C.A., represented by Messrs. Veale Buckley, and Leonard. There was a large attendance, and a very interesting debate took place, each - team dealing fully with its respective side of the subject. At the conclusion of the debate Dr. O'Shaughnessy, who ably filled the position of adjudicator, gave an interesting criticism of the respective speakers, and declared the points to be: Y.M.C.A., 288; Training College, 254.
