CATHOLIC FEDERATION.

AUCKLAND DIOCESAN COUNCIL.

Tun annual meeting of the Auckland diocesan council of the New Zealand Catholic Federation was held on Wednesday night in St. Benedict's Club Rooms. There was a large attendance of delegates from all parts of the provincial district of Auckland, including many members of the Catholic clergy. Mr. B. McLaughlin presided. Apologies for absence wero roceived from Bishop deary and Archdeacon Hackett. The annua] report and balancesheet were received and adopted. Tho report showed that during the first year of the federation's existence many good results had been obtained. The federation diJ not exist for the purpose of offence, but, ior dclcnce, and was ever ready to co-operate with any organisation for the uplilting of citizenship and for the general good. Tho many activities of the federation were reported on and showed that tho movement was progressing. The delegates were unanimous in their disapproval of, and protest against, the Referendum Bill in connection with the Bible in Schools movement. The council affirmed' the < Catholic principles in connection with their objections to the Bill. The election of officers for the ensuing year took place and resulted as follows:—President, Mr. B. McLaughlin;' vice-presidents, Messrs. P. J. Nerheny and A. Rose; hon. diocesan secretary, Mr. F. G. J. Temm: assistantdiocesan secretary, Mr. M. C. Tully; diocesan treasurer, Mr. M. J. Sheaban; delegates to Dominion Council, Messrs B. McLaughlin, F. G, J. Temm, and one of tho vice-presidents, as mutually arranged between them when the council meets. Father Murphy (Cambridge) moved: "That the next half.wl- me«*in" be held in Hamilton" Mr. F. G. J. Temm seconded the motion, deemin" it desirable to assist the country branches in this connection. The motion was carried.
