THE LAND TAX.
Sir,-Mr. Okey, M.P., ie pleading that the land tax screw be not lowered so as to hurt tho Taranaki owners of £40,000. Mr. Massey is doing his best to protect as from the dangers of extreme wealth and poverty. At. present the total assets of New Zealand are about £330 a head, and if the whole was in the hands of a few and the very rich and poor were in two .well-defined classes we (should soon have a revolution. The' people of small capital, say, from £500 to £5000, are the stay of the country, acd act as a buffer between the very rich and very poor. What Mr. Massey wants is to increase the buffer class at the expense of the two extremes. Mount Albert. John John-son.
