NEW HALL FOR TAKAPUNA.

ENTERPRISE OF FORESTERS.

Some time ago the members of the Foresters' Order at Takapuna decided to build a largo hall and lodgeroom at Talmpuna, in the vicinity of the new post office, which is now in course of erection in the district. Plans were accordingly drawn up by Mr. A. Wiseman, and° a tender, at £2500, has been let to Messrs. MeCallum and Bull for the work of construction.

Tno plans provide for a concert hall, 67ft by 38ft. At the end of the hall there will be a stage 24ft bv 15ft. It is expected that the concert 'hall will be largely used for cinematograph purposes, The interior of the hall will have a handsome rimu panel dado, 7ft 6in high, while the rest of the walls will be tinted! The ceiling will be of fibrous plaster of elaborate design. Although no gallery is to be built at present the building has been designed to take a gallery in the future, if deemed necessary. On one side of the''concert 'hall the lodgeroom, 38ft by 20ft, will be situated. From this room access to the hall will be gained by large double doors. On special occasions the lodgeroom mill also be used as a supper-room. The building generally is to be constructed of brick. The' front will be of pressed brick, and finished with, roughcast. A largo entrance porch has been planned, and ante-rooms, kitchen, and other conveniences are to bo provided. The foundation-stone of the new building is to be laid in two weeks' time, when an official ceremony will be held. It is expected that the structure will be completed by the beginning of December. ARCHITECTS' REGISTRATION. BOARD MEETS ON WEDNESDAY. The second meeting of the Architects' Registration Board, which was recently constituted under the New Zealand Institute of Architects' Act, 1913, is to bo held in Wellington next Wednesday. The board consists of six members, three of them appointed by the Governor-in-coune.il, and three by the Institute of Architects. Tho Government members are: Mr. James Hector McKay, Wellington; Mr. G. Selwyn Goldsbro', Auckland; and Mr. Basil Hooper, Dunedin. The members appointed bv the institute are: Mr, A. Atkins, Wellington; Mr. S. Hurst Seager, Christchurch; and Mr. V. Y. Wales, Dunedin.

The board is a temporary body, the Act providing that it shall cease to exist on the first meeting of the council of the institute, In tho meantime it is the duty of the board to receive, consider, and determine applications from persons desirous of being registered as members of the institute, the first election of the council, which is to be the permanent governing body of tho institute, is to bo as soon as convenient after April, 1915. Mr. Goldsbro' 'will leave for Wellington on Tuesday, to attend the meeting of the board. NEW APARTMENT HOUSE. BUILDING TO COST £3785. A large three-storey brick building is to be erected at the corner of Symonds and Havelock Streets, and divided up into apartment 6uites. Plans for the structure viero prepared by Mr. A. Sinclair' O'Connor, and tho following tenders for the work of construction have been received :— J. H. Ellisdon, £3785; S. I. Clark, £3837; J. Burfoot, £3845; C. A. Lee, £3897; J. J. Holland, £3924; W. A. Clark, £3934; Grevati and Son, £3987; J. F. Guthrie, £1010; J. T. Julian, £4057; W. E. Hutchison, £4084. The lowest tender, that of Mr, J. H. Ellisdon, lias been

accepted. The- site has a frontage of 36ft to Symonds Street and 80ft to Havelock Street, Tho interior partitions of tho building are to be lined with asbestos, thus reducing the' possibility of fire. There will bo about a dozen suites of rooms, ranging from three to six rooms each. Each suite sill hare a separate

kitchen, with all modern conveniences. To each suite there will bo a separateprivate balcony, while there will be ono big balcony at the back of tlio building overlooking the Domain and harbour. In addition to the suites, there will be about half-a-dozen rooms which arc to be let singly. The Mitside of the building will be tt brick and plaster. It is designed in the English classic style of architecture, with an imposing cntranco porch and steps-. Throughout the building is to be lit by electricity.

HAMILTON PICTURE THEATRE.

TENDER FOR £8091 ACCEPTED.

The following tenders have been received by the architect, Mr. H. C. drierson, for the construction of tho new picture theatre which is to be erected in Victoria Street, Hamilton:—W. E. lintchison, £8091: J. T. Julian, £8167; C. R. Lamb, £82.11; H. 51. Hollow, £8359; J. E. Guthrie, £8480; <i. Garner, £8686; B. C. Nicholson. £8777; Sncll Brothers, £8888; J. P. Murray, £8900; C. W. Cooper, £8999; G. E. Forrest, £9239; Clarke and Moore, £9326; McEinnon and Patterson. £9345; C. H. Frankham, £9558; Howie and Matthews, £9634; F. Potts, £10,936.

The lowest tender, that of Mr. W. E. Hutchison, has been accepted. The architect's estimate for the work was £8100. Tho theatre, which is to be built in brick, has been designed to seat between 1100 and 1200 people. A stage 50ft by 40ft is to be constructed, so that the theatre will bo suitable for the requirements of theatrical companies visiting the district. On either side of the 14ft wide entrance passage provision is made for shops, while on the floor above tho entrance there will be a tearoom, 46ft by 35ft. Over tho footpath there will bo a large balcony, which will be approached from tho tearoom. A commodious dress circle is provided for. and ample provision is made for cloakrooms and other conveniences. The auditorium will cover an area 80ft l>v 48ft.

ANOTHER PICTURE THEATRE,

A NEWMARKET SCHEME.

A local syndicate contemplates building a new picture theatre, to be known as the Broadway Theatre, in Broadway, Newmarket. For* this purpose the syndicate has secured the- option over the property owned by Messrs. Gilmore, drapers, for £12,000. The sit* which is situated opposite the junction of the Newmarket and Rcmuera tramlines, has a frontage of 50ft.

Should the application for shares in the ! syndicate warrant the promoters in proceeding with the venture, it is intended ' ; to spend about £16,000 on the erection of | the building, which, it is proposed, shall consist of an auditorium and dress-circle, ! which will seat about 1000 people. It is ' intended to utilise the outer walls of the J building at present on the site. The roug'i plans for the proposed new build- ] ing have been prepared by Messrs. A. |' Sinclair O'Connor and J. Christie. These ; provide for a theatre, modern in every I respect. Two shops, one at each side of j a wide entrance, are provided for, and it j is proposed that one of thesv< shall be i used as a cafe in connection with, the ! theatre.
