THE SALVATION ARMY.

Thk .annual " social week," promoted in connection with the Salvation Army in Auckland, was commenced in the Albert Street barracks yesterday, when special services, addressed by the various social officers, were held. At the afternoon service, Adjtltant Gordon > of the Parnell Rescue Home, related many sad incidents which had come under her notice as matron of the home. Mrs. Harrison Leo Cowie assisted by Adjutant Gordon, addressed a crowded meeting at the evening service, basing her remarks on tho words, "Tho Eyes of the Blind Shall be Opened." A united meeting of the officers of all tho local 'institutions is announced for this evening, when an address on tho social side of the Army's work will be given. SEAMEN'S MISSION. Tho Sunday evening gospel service, under tho control of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, was well attended by seamen and friends. Mr. Kelley's message was " Ye Must be Born Again." Several solos were sung. YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION. "Helping the Christ to Work Miracles," formed the subject of an address by Mrs. Le<j Cowie yesterday, at the Y.W.C.A. rooms, Wellesley Street. The meeting was. followed by a happy social hour, at which several strangers from overseas were present for the first time. CENTRAL MISSION. Tho band held tho usual open-air meeting at 10 a.m. At 10.30 a.m. a number of shipping workers conducted a service on the deck of 5.6. Fiona. Mr. Dimant addressed tho members at the Mission Hall in tho morning whilst Mr. Bissett preached the gospel in His Majesty's Theatre in the evening to a largo congregation. THEOSOPHY. Mr. J. R. Thomson lectured at the Chamber of Commerce Hall on "Tho Control and Culturo of the Mind," to a large audience. He said that clear thinking was the only sure foundation for the evolution of tho individual, and, therefore, for the reform of tho community, and that by pure and ideal thought man progresses towards the spiritual life. At the Auckland Theosophical Society's rooms, Coburg Street, Mr. S. Stuart lectured to a large audience on "Some Queer Revelations."
