SAVAGERY AMONG NATIVES.
CHRISTIANS PERSECUTED.

Sydney, July 9. The Rev. Mr. Goldie, chairman of the Methodist Missions to the Solomon Islands, reports that a visit to Ontorngja\a disclosed that tho native converts were being cruelly persecuted, their property devastated, and food for tho relief of sufferers intercepted.
Mr/. Goldie, on landing, was surrounded by hundreds of hostile natives and threatened with uplifted weapons. The Commissioer for the Solomons promised investigation. Dysentery was raging in tho Santa Cruz Group, and several deaths had occurred.
