SOME POINTS EXPLAINED.
'ADDRESS TCI COUNTRY TEACHERS.
The quarterly meeting of the Auckland Country Teachers', Association was held in the Training College yesterday afternoon. ■ Mr. \V. A; Joll presided over an attend' . ance ,of about 90 country teachers from all parte of the province. An address on " The New Syllabi" was.given by Mr. K K. MtjJgan ■ (chief inspector).. In opening, Mr. Mulgan pointed out that, the fullest latitude was - now given to the teacher in drawing up his. course o:i instruction. Tho eylkbus was by no means rigid, but rather in the nature of -suggestions to the teachers. Interpretations of tho 1 eolations relating to . various subjects of,instruction were given by Mr. Mulgin, who referred to the modern view. of drawing is a' valuable mode of" expression. ' The , old style of drawing from line copiss was superseded by drawing from " the, object itself. The . production might not always"' : be : a£ nest or artistic as previously', but yet it would have great educational due. . • '. • v ' ,-At: the -conclusion of the address, Mr, K Mulgan answered a number of questions, w bearing mainly on ' interpretation of the * regulations. • ' " y ■' •In connection with a; question relating to th..r raising 'of the standard of attainment neeesary for obtaining a certificate . of proficiency, one teacher remarked that the effect might- be to, exclude deserving - pupils from the advantages' of secondary ' • education. Experience, went to show, hi • -said,-that many pupils matured ; late, and .' ho argued, that these pupils should not bfif.denied the privilege of extending their
