7 Sydney, July 1. News lias been received that tidal waves, risinc 42ft high, have swept over Nassau Island, in tho Union Group, north-east of Samoa, doing considerable damage.
A resident named John Petersen and his, wife lost 'verythin£,' and suffered great privations through insufficient supplies of food and water for .uvo months until rescued by tlio steamer.
