AGROUND ON IRISH COAST. STRIKES IN DENSE FOG. THREE LIVES LOST. By Telegraph-Tress Association— (Received July 1, 12.10 a.m.) 'London, June :?0> The liner California, from New York to Glasgow, ran ashore yesterday in a fog on Tory Island, off the north coast of Ireland. There were 1016 passengers aboard, and alnidst all were safely landed. Several destroyers and steamers responded to the wireless call for help. The California ran ashore in a dense fog. She missed her course, and struck the rocks, her bottom being ripped open from the foremast forward. It is unlikely she can be salved. A man, a woman, and a child were killed during the landing. The islanders built huge bonfires, thus guiding the passengers ashore.

The California is a twin-screw steamer of 8662 tons gross, and is owned by the Anchor Line (.Messre. Henderson iiroN.. Ltd., managers). Sho was built at Glasgow in 1907 by Messrs. D. and \V. Henderson and Co.. Ltd. Her length is 170 ft, breadth 68ft 3in, and depth 3<lft., while ber engines arc of 827 nominal horsepower.
