Thk Hon. W. K. Nikora, M.L.C., Auckland, left by yesterday's midday express for Wellington.

' -The Eon. J. A. Millar, M.P. to Dunedin West, who it now a resident of Auckland, left for Wellington by yesterdays mid-day express.

The death occurred at Ghrifitchurch on Sunday, states a Press Association message, of Captain John Washington Walker, at the age of 60 years. Th© deceased was prominent in the volunteer movement.

Mr C. P. Newton, of Auckland, has been 'appointed registrar of tho Tokerau Native Land Court district, the position having beau rendered vacant by the death of Mr. G. N. Grimstone, who was killed in the Whangamarino railway accident. Mr Newton is at presont clerk and interpreter to Mr. A. G. Holland, judge of the Waiketo-Maniapoto district.

Professor E. E. Prince, Canadian Commissioner of Fisheries, left for Wellington by the noon express yesterday, accompanied by Mr. L. F. Ayson, chief inspector of fisheries. During the weekend Professor Prince conferred with Mr. W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Commissioner. Professor Prince will visit Wangamu, Napier, Nelson, and Picton, and will then return to Wellington to draw up his preliminary report. He. will probably pay a short visit to Australia before returning to Canada.

The death occurred on Sunday at her residence, Hobson Park Road, PanwUi of Mrs. Frances Sarah Clements, wife of Mr. Archibald Clements. The deceased lady was a daughter of tho late William Rose, of BaUincfce. County Longford, Iceland. She and her husband left Ireland for New Zealand in the ship Racehorse, and, though .fiiey were shipwrecked twice on tie voyage wit, they reached Auckland in 1869. Mr. and Mrs. Clements went at ones to Cambride*, tho journey occupying three days. After residing in the Woikato for 30 years they came to Auckland, whore they have lived for the past 20 years.
