WHITE PHEASANT SHOT.
RARE FIND L> THE NORTH,
[»T mpaflAFH.— CO^pSPpNPEirr.] WniisiGAJVEX, Sunday. A rarity in tho form of a white cock pheasant was shown in Whangarei, the bird having been shot by a visiting sportsman noar Puhipuhi, in the southern end of the Bay of Islands County. Slight markings of brown in tho breast plumage of tho bird could be discerned on close examination, and it was thoreforo not regarded as such a finp specimen as the pure white pheasant shot in tho same district threo years ago 1 and exhibited in tho Whangarei court at the last Auckland winter show, and more recontly in tho North Auckland court at tho Auckland Exhibition.
Tho existence of both white and albino pheasants has been known in'the district at the northern end of Whangarei County for some years past, and there has been much speculation in regard to their origin, They are believed to bo a portion of a 6train of silver pheasants, which were liberated by ope of the early settlers.
