FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE.
AN INTERESTING COMPILATION
Tire rare occurrence of serious railway accidents ill Now Zealand was emphasised during the inquest into the circumstances of the Whangamarfoo tragedy by an official statement that during the previous ninp years 1101 a single life had been lost through accident to trains. It was obv.ioiis that do account was then taken of fatalities associated with the railway system. From official sources, the Railway Review has compiled a list of " accidents to passengers" during the_ last 10 years. Apparently it does not include accidents to railway men "while "at"" work, or accidents on level crossings, by which so many persons have been injured and killed during the last few years.
