OBJECTIONS TO BILL.
POSITION OF' CATHOLIG PEOPLE. The following resolution was passed yesterday - a meeting of 4ho Pamell .branch of -the New Zealand Catholic Federation :-r" That thjs meeting of tho lledeiMito, reprejeptiag all the Catholic residents Qf Parnell, strongly protests against tho passing of & Bill by Parliament granting a referendum on tho question of religious instruction in State schools, as promulgated by tho Mew Zealand -Bible in State Schools League, as a violation of the conscience .and .civil eights and. liberties of Catholics."
The Sacred Heart Society, Parnell, has adopted the following resolution '" That the members of the -Sacred Heart Society in Parnell most, ( emphatically prot{«t 'against "\he institution of a Slaw religion in the fi&te schools, as proposed by tho New Zealand iiible in Schools League, thereby staking to'deprive ma'fty' Protestant, Catholic, Jewish", Unitarian, and other objecting taxpayers .of -the liberty of conscience they now' enjoy, and compelling them"to pay for Biblical lesions to'which they conscientiously object;" A resolution adopted yesterday by the Rosary and Altar Societies and Young Men's Club in Parnell, is as ' follows •- " That the members of tho Rosary and Altar Societies and Young' Men's Club in Parnell protest against the request of the New Zealand Bible in State Schools League (represented by only one section of the people, and consisting of four churches." or sects), for ' a referendum on the question of the teaching of Bible, or religions, lessons in the State schools; as they maintain that all the other sections of the "people have an equal right to have their views of the Bible or religion taught by State officials at State cost."
