Sir Thomas Sutherland (chairman of the P., and O. Company) stated that though the company was tho controller of the combine, it would not undertake the detailed management of the British India Company for at least 10 years, during which the British India Company would retain its own management. Sir Thomas hoped that Lord Inchcapo (chairman of the 8.1. Co.) would becom 1 ; head of the combine when he himself retired.
