The going was a trifle more holding than on the first day, but conditions were by no means bad. Fair fields were the order, and the racing was most interesting. Opeke was the only withdrawal in the !<gamutu Handicap, for which Princess Moutoa was favourite. Avon Park, however, was almost as strongly supported, while there was money for Rector Girl, Bruns--1 wick, and Gay Guard. Avon Park, who was always nicely, placed, won at the finish I by a long neck from the fast-finishing Princess Moutoa, who might have been first with a. better run in the early stages. Brunswick ran well for four furlongs, but was labouring at the finish. Zetos, who did not start on the first day, was entrusted with most money in the Mokoia Handicap. Wild Lupin was second favourite, and the order of the others was, Kaniki, Glenfern, Rewi Poto. Grattan, Tetikura, and Simple Sam. Rewi Poto, with C. Brown in the saddle, began very quickly, and at the turn into the straight appeared to have the race won. At this point Grattan challenged, but it was not until the half-distance that Rewi Poto succumbed. The winner paid the best dividend of the meeting. Kaniki, who met with interference, ran a much better race, and will win soon, but Zetes and Wild Lupin were never dangerous. Despite his previous day's failure, Paoli was made favourite for the Hurdles, but Sam Pan was almost as well backed, while there was plenty of money for St. Gate and Parawanui. Paoli, Parawanui, and St. Gate were out forcing the pace very early, and, with four furlongs covered. Paoli looked like making an exhibition of the field. But something went wrong very suddenly, and he d-ifted back. Sara Pan was leading a furlong from home, with St. Gate in second place, and the pair appeared to have the race to themselves, but Paoli put in a great run, and won by a length. The winner made a fair showing for a novice, but as the hurdles arc not very difficult, there was not a great deal of merit in the performance. Parawanui, who is fancied in some quarters for the Century Hurdles, was well beaten, but will do better later on, when he is more seasoned. On Hawera form, St. Gate can be left out of calculations for the Century Hurdles. He is not a stayer, and 12 furlongs is just about as far as he likes to go. There was a great finish in the Opeke Handicap, four horses, Slyrax, Conny, Maniaroa, and Kurnalpi, passing the post in line. The race was a very interesting one, the positions being changed many times. Styrax looked hopelessly beaten at the distance, but W. Price rode a desperate finish and managed to catch tho judge's eye. No one but that official could have placed the horses correctly. Tyson was a hot order for tho Shorts, with Calais, Gerberga, Vladineau, Escort, and Watine fancied next in that order. The latter led to the straight, but faded out of it at tho finish, and both Gerberga and Vladineau beat him. Tyson got a very bad passage and was done with half-way down the straight, while Calais made a very poor

showing. When betting commenced on tho Manaia Handicap, nothing was inquired for but Patronale, but later on a rush set in on Cheddar. However, Patronalo finished up favourite with 203 more tickets than Cheddar, and there was also support for Manawakaha and White Crane. The roan went out to win his race from end to end, but Cheddar, on whom O'Shea rode a fine race, had too much pace at the finish. Cheddar made his runfrom the distance and be really won easily. Royal Dragoon shaped well, but tho others were never prominent. Despite his. big impost. Square Deal was a hot favourite for the final event. Lady Ami 'Lupin— from It. Barlow's stable, was second fancy, while Sweet Van was rleo well-backed. Sweet Van and Lady Ami, who was reported to havo beaten Patronalo in ft trial, made the running for five furlong?, but it was all over when Adams brought the favourite along, nothing having a chance with Postillion's brother, who is more than useful.

During the running of the Mokoia Handicap, Kaniki appeared to be interfered with by Zetes. At the inauiry it was shown that the latter is a very difficult horse to manage, but the steward deemed it necessary to administer a severo caution to B Deeley. Tho , rider. J. O'Shea, for alleged crossing on Tyson on the opening day, was given the benefit of the doubt, and G. Stevenson and ' H. _ Young were reprimanded for giving un- ' satisfactory evidence. ; THE TURF IN ENGLAND. I j . RESULT OF THE NEWMARKET 1 STAKES. ! By Telegraph— Association—Copyright.
