AQUATICS.

NOTES AND COMMENTS. Much, interest is being shown in aquatic circles in the race for the Brett Cup, which is to take place next Saturday. This race is looked upon as the race of the year for power boats, and it is considered that about twenty-five, launches at least will take part. Already large entries, including all the best power boats on 'the harbour, have been received, and, given.', a fine day, next Saturday's race to Kawau. should be a very keenly contested one, ■ especially as the cup is to be won outTight. "Entries will close on Monday night. It has been decided in connection with this event that all launches fitted with / masts must carry them, either standing or" otherwise. Arrangements have been made with the Northern Steamship Company to run the Usual week-end boat on Saturday direct j to Kawau, so that those interested in the race way, if they so desire, witness the finish. In the evening a social will be held at Kawau, and the launches will. return to Auckland on the following day. , .• Three holders of the power-boat chain/ pionship penants have received challenges for their titles. The penants were awarded on the Kean Cup race to the fastest. launches in the different classes. The launch Oban, holder of the title' under 10 knots, has been challenged by the Rose, while the Sister Dora has challenged tho Lizard for the title under seven and ahalf knots, and a challenge has been received by the _ Malwa from the Kermai.h' for i the championship under eight and a-.: half knots. The races will probably he' run on Saturday, April 4. Much success attended the special meeting of the Ponsoijby Yacht and Cruising Club, held on Thursday evening to con- ' sider the proposal to add another storey-* to the clubhouse at St. Marv's Bay. to instal dinghy lockers, and to make a good approach to the clubhouse from the main road. The meeting decided that the work should be proceeded with as soon as possible, and debentures covering more than half the cost were taken up in the room. The new additions ■ will prove of much benefit to the dub, especially from a social point of view. Much of the club's yearly revenue comes from the euchre parties and ladies' ..committee's social, held during the yea.r, and the additional accommodation will undoubtedly bring even more success to these functions. It is also anticipated that the rent for the lockers wilt more than pay the interest on the outlay necessary for the improvements.
