THE EXHIBITION.

;■";■ GOOD ATTENDANCE. ';' '. SUCCESSFUL CONCERT, : ' Tiai attendance at the Exhibition yester-., day.was well up to the average,,and the opsn-air concert last evening attracted a ]arg« audience It was given in the Mennio bandstand, and a largo number of prominent Auckland performers took part. The animals comprise * tin? selection of many varieties. In addition, the bind of the 3rd (Auckland) Raiment will play at 3 p.m.- A display of fireworks will be given at 7.46 p.m. The finals for the Exhibition competitions will he commenced at 8.15 p.m. Twenty performers are to appear—six men, singing comic Bongs, and eight men and six women in the competitions.for songs (4 a'.rooro serious clam. The performers ,tonight havo been selected by a committee of judges, but tho actual winners of the prizes arc to be selected by popular Vote.. A remarkable event is fixed for next ■ Saturday, when somebody whose , personality is completelv veiled under an assumed name will carry with him a letter entitling the bearer to collect £30 from the Exhibition authorities. If he is asked in a proper way who he is, he will deliver t.he letter to the person accosting him- Ihe conditions are simple, and already so much interest is being taken in the event that it is expected to be one of the most powerful attractions yet arranged fqr the sea-son. It has the additional ad-' vantage that if there is no successful claimant for tho prise. which'.it' is held can be obtained by mere perseverance, the amount will bo doubled, _ and the beneficent gentleman will pay another visit to the 'Exhibition at a later date. {Next Saturday afternoon a harvest "festival, with competitions for decorated motor-cars, cycles, . and side-cars, ■ fancy dlewes. tableaux, and other features, 'will be'held on the Domain Cricket Ground. The total attendance at the. Exhibition yesterday, was 2374, made up of 1343 adults and 129 children who paid for admittance, and 902 season ticketholders. Spades were, much in evidence at Wonderland last night, when digging took place for the "buried treamirc." Numbers of people of both sexes, secured coupons, and thereby a spade, and the fun Was fast and furious when the digging began. The energy displayed by some of the .'competitors in their . search for the keys, was almost worthy of a better fate. The prizes, however, are well worth ' the trouble of digging, let alone the fun that is provided for the diggers and the specVtatprs.' ■:.::>
