TRAM EXTENSION.

MOUNT ALBERT PROJECT.

COUNCIL TO ASSIST. Some time ago a deputation from the Mount Albert Borough Council wailed upon the Tramways Company and urged that the tram service should be extended along tie New Edendale Road and the Mount Albert Road. The company has written to the council stating that it could not entertain the consduction of a line along the New Edendale Road at preseit. A deputation also urged the company to extend the lin3 from the existing terminus to Mount Albert, and the counci' has received the following favourable reply from the company :— " Witu regard to the p:opoeed extension of the existing Morningside tramway to King George's Hall at Mount Albert, it has been decided, in consideration of the views expressed by your deputation and the offer then made on behalf of your council that it would carry out the necessary excavation for the purpose of constructing the tramway free of expense to the company, that the company will be prepared to proceed with the extension subject to a deed of delegation satisfactory to the company being entered into with your council." The company requires that it shall have control of the new section for 33 years from the date of the inauguration of the extended service. Mr. M. J. Coyle (Mayor of Mount Albert) informed a Herald representative yesterday that his council had practically agreed to the terms submitted by the deputation to the company. Mr Coyle further stated that the company intended to extend the present penny section which now ran from Page's corner to Mor»:gside. The extension to King George's Hall was a little over a mile and would be an extra penny section, making a total of 4d for the fare from the city to Mount Albert and vice-versa. MOUNT ROSKILL DISTRICT. Definite proposals as to the suggested installation of a tramway service in the Mount Roskill Road District have been submitted to the board. At the board's ' meeting last evening, the chairman, Mr. C. Bagley, assured the members that the informut on with which they had been supplied fully warranted their serious consideration. The sum of about £20,000 \ would be requirod to realise this object, but he was convinced that the value of the district would be enhanced by about a quarter of a million pounds. In 1915 he hoped to see trams running in Mount Roskill. A special meeting of the board is to be held on March 18 to fully consider the proposals. —
