An appeal has been issued by the Laboar Council for financial assistance for 30,000 to 40,000 men, women, and children who will shortly need assistance. A meeting of the ironworkers to-day decided to hold a ballot as early as possible on the advisability of returning to work. There is every possibility that the next unionist strike will be by the painters. A special meeting takes place on Monday. A ballot on the question of ceasing work will forthwith be taken. Under a current award the painters get Is 4d an hour and signwriters Is 6d, but they want increases to Is 6d and Is 8d respectively.
