KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR.
OLD MAN KILLED.
IDENTITY UNCERTAIN.
A tram accident which terminated fatally occurred opposite Howe Street in tva'-ttngahape Roau at about ten minutes past time o'clock last evening. Tho victim wits an elderly man, whose identity is as B ot certain, though from papers found .11 his pockets his name would appear to lip William Richard Waters, an old age pensioner. i Ik: circumstances surrounding the accident are as yet unknown, except that while crossing the road he was knocked down by a car. He was travelling from Fori sun by to the city. It is nutted that the car was travelling very slowly at the time of the accident, the motorman pulling up almost directly after the impact. Tho unlortunato man was carried into the shop of Mr. Manning, chemist, vtfhere he was attended by Dr. J. M. Hope. He found the man suffering from a wound above the left eye, a scalp wound at the back of the head, bleeding from the mouth, and concussion. He was removed to the hospital, where ho died at half-past twelve this morning without regaining consciousness.
The Net-ton police state that the deceased's description answers to that of a man who was boarding at 43, Crummer Road, Grey Lynn, and who had not returned to his lodgings at a late hour last night.
