HOMES FOR WORKERS.

GOVERNMENT'S, INTENTIONS

STATEMENT IBY MR. MASSEY

.—OWN- CORRESPONDENT.}

Wellington, Friday. The extension of the system of workers' homes to country districts was the subject of some interesting remarks by the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, in conversation with a reporter today. *

"The Government," he said, "has bought a piece of land at Willowbridge. South Canterbury, and I have had it cut up into five-acre sections. On each section there will be a worker's home, costing approximately £300. All the Willow - bridge sections have beer, applied for and taken up, and contracts have been let for the erection of the houses. Each prospective settler has to put up a deposit of £20, and the balance will be paid weekly over a term of 25 years.

This system of settlement promises to le'a great success. I am about to try another experiment on the same lines at Masterton, where I propose to establish six of these workers' homes. The land has been purchased, and in the near future a start will be made in giving effect to the project."
