THE COMING CARNIVAL.

A meeting of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club was held at -the Sports Club last evening, when Mr. A. Pluggo presided. It was decided to communicate with the manager of the American athletes asking that G. L. Parker, the champion sprinter of the team, be allowed to compete at the meeting in the event of the s.s. Makura's departure being delayed. It is probable that the club will invite H. Martis, the New Zealand amateur champion sprinter, to compete if a favourable reply is received from Mr. Peixotto. [BT TELEGJtArH.— ASSOCIATION.] Masterton, Thursday. The American athletes appeared here to day and competed at the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club's meeting. In tie 440 yds, Parker (U.S.A.), broke the Australasian record, in 49 l-ss. A feature of the meeting was Power's (U.S.A.) mile run, the distance being covered in 4m 18 2-ss. a fresh Australasian record. -Both Parker and Power had a great reception on returning to the pavilion. Templeton was too heavily handicapped, but showed to great advantage in both the 120vds hurdles and the pole vaulting. In the former he was just beaten, giving away a big start. In the pole vault he cleared lift lin. C&aghey (U.S.A.) in the putting the shos contest, covered 44ft '3{in. also an Australasian record. . under Union rules, local bodies* sports.
