The master butchers allege that many volunteers have offered their services, in* eluding a number of trades unionist shop* men. It is also claimed that 5000 farmers and their sons are ready to come from the country if needed. In the House of Assembly yesterday the debate on the Address-in-Reply was responsible for strong criticism of the Government's general policy and its attitude towards strikes. The Cabinet Committee ha? substituted fresh proposals to the men's delegates. The detail* were withheld, and these were to have been submitted to a mass meeting, but a board of inquiry has decided to postpone this meeting until Friday night in order to consider the proposals immediately. All the big city shops have been opened and there is a rush for meat. Only a limited number of hands is available.
