ELECTRIC POWER.
GOVERNMENT VERSUS CITY.
LAKE COLERIDGE SCHEME.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.]
Chkistchtjrch, Wednesday. A. deputation representing the Christchurch City Council and adjoining boroughs waited on the Hon. W. Eraser, Minister for Public Works, to-day and asked if the Government is going to take a contract to supply power from Lake Coleridge to large consumers.
Councillor Taylor said if the Government was going to compete with the city it would mean rearrangement of pricee charged by the city for supplying local authorities.
The Minister replied that the Government did not want to waste power. If the city was prepared to supply the power required at once he would hand over the contracts the Government had made to the city, but ho could not allow prospective consumers to wait two or three years.
