' [lit TELtORAFH.—KRESS ; ASSOCIATION.] '- * Trbstsam, Wednesday. Thp. conditions wore almost ideal for the lag, to-day, when the competitors wont on the, mounds, and the marksmanship at tin- 800 yds range in the Olago Match was excellent No less than seven possibles were recorded, and eight " all buta" were returned; The men who fired first had ft ■light advantage in the conditions, as about nine o'clock a light rear wind commenced to blow,'which somewhat hampered the men who fired in the later stages. The possibles were scored by Pickering (Linton), White (Auckland), Carter (.Kelson), Clarke (Rangitikei), L'lynn (Auckland), Ball (Linton), and 11. Loveday (Ohura). Masefield (Sounds), who has been shooting very consistently, sooured '{17 and 46 respectively, thus making top scoto. A. Henderson, also of the Hounds 8.C., and 11. Loveday (Ohura), made 03 each," Much interest was attached to Oliver's'shooting. He was leading in the aggregate after the close of yesterday's firinc. Oliver secured a useful 47 at the shorter range, but fell All to pieces ,at 1000 yds, his board reading 0, 3, 4, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4. 6, 0-27. It should be stated that the wind considerably increased after the men had commenced at 1000 yds, and two competitors'completely tailed to find the target. Chins (Kelson) planted 45 on each target, and Dickson (Linton) and Carter (Nelson) also secured 30, with 50 on the first attempt and 40 on the second. Amongst the 89's were: Mcintosh (Hangitikei), Bent (Auckland), Hunt (Suburbs), and Milroy (Nelson). Tho Taranaki Match, 10 shots at 1000 yds, the semi-final for the belt, was fired after lunch, in bright sunshine and a' light rear wind, and again the experienced marksmen held their own. On the Somerville range, the best score was made by Masefield. He secured;four for his sighter, which he retained, and, with the exception of one three, the remainder of his score was made up of. bulls. 'X'lio wind was baffling and tricky during the match and some competitors had the mortification of rising with blanks against their names. On the Seddon range, where much the same atmospheric conditions prevailed, Vennell (Xa Wharau) mads top score with 43, his nearest attendants being Brownleo (Auckland), Mauneell (Opaki) and Steenson'(Oamaru), who each registered 45.
