INLAND WATERWAYS.
THE PROPOSED COMMISSION,
GOVERNMENT'S INTENTION!
EXPERTS TO BE APPOINTED. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. Wellington, Thursday. Several schemes for the opening of inland waterways in the Auckland district have been mentioned at intervals for a number of years, among others there are two schemes for connecting the Waitemata and the Manukau Harbours, one by way of Tamaki and the other by way of the Whau. There is also a proposal to connect the Waikato River with the Manukau Harbour, and still another to connect the Waitemata from Riverhead, with the waters of the Kaipaia. It is now the intention of the Government to get up a Royal Commission to report upon the practicability of the schemes. The Bight Hon. W- F. Massey stated yesterday that nothing had been done as yet with regard to the appointment of the commission; but he is awaiting a communication from the Auckland Harbour Board, and when he received it the members of the commission would be appointed within a few weeks. It was intended to appoint as commissioners two experts who had. some experience of inland waterways.
