[BT TELEGRAPH.—'PRESS ASSOCIATION.] , Dunedin, Thursday. John Henry Hosking, K.C., whose appointment as Judge has been confirmed, has being so long in practice in Dunedin that many people would argue confidently that he is a native of the city. He was born in Penzance, Cornwall, 59 years ago, and ho was brought out to Auckland by his parents in the year 1856. He was educated in Auckland, and at 16 was articled for five years to the late Mr. Samuel Jackson, of the firm of Messrs. Jackson and Russell, whose name still flourishes in Auckland. He was admitted, in Auckland, as a barrister and solicitor, by the late Mr. Justice Gillies, in 1875, and then came to Dunedin as managing clerk to Mr. Kenyori, whom he joined as partner in 1877. The firm was dissolved in 1898. Mr. Hosking carried on his practice alone for 10 years, when he joined Mr. John Cook in partnership. He was appointed a King's Counsel in June. 1907. Last year he was 'appointed by the Government 'to act with Mr. A. Mcintosh, as a Royal Commission to inquire into the working of the Public Trust Office.
