WORK OF ASSOCIATION.
The committee of the Auckland branch of the Public Service Association held a meeting on Tuesday evening, which was well attended.
The resignation of the president, Mr. F H. Pope, was accepted with regret, Mr. T. P. Gilfedder being elected president in his stead, and Mr. T. Culpan was elected vice-president.
, The branch was reported to be sound both financially and numerically by Mr. A. J. Hill, the secretary. Valuable information concerning the work being accomplished by the association was given b> the organising secretary, Mr. F. W. Millar. It was decided to make a choice of candidates for the Superannuation Board Board when the nominations close. It was announced that the Public Service journal, the first of its kind in New Zealand, would be received from the printer in the course of a few days, and that copies would be distributed free to all financial members of the Auckland branch.
The case of a temporary cleric who was retired without leave, on account of illhealth, was considered at length, and it was decided to refer it ,to the Wellington executive to faring it before the commissioners.
It was decided to hold a combined Civil Service picnic at Motutapu on February 23 if a holiday can be obtained on that date, and further that ' the co-operation of the Post and Telegraph, Railway, Police, and other Departments should be invitodj
