OUTBURST OF OIL.

NEW BLENHEIM BORE.

THE TARANAKI INDUSTRY.

[BT TELEGRAPH.OWN

New Plymouth, Thursday. Fresh interest has been created in the oil industry and its possibilities in Taranaki by the Blenheim Bore, which lately has demonstrated that it can give a good supply. On Sunday afternoon the bore be- | came unexpectedly lively, oil being hurled | to the top of the derrick.

There were no workmen on duty at the time, and the flow of oil was consequently -unchecked, with the result that yesterday the inside of the derrick and the surroundings of the bore were inches deep in the fluid, and the sledge pit was a lake of oil. The blow out was entirely unexpected, as the field manager had calculated that with a 9iri casing the pressure of gas would not ibe strong enough to force the oil out of the bore. That it has done so is a .favourable sign, although it has made rather a mess of the derrick. j

Since Sunday the staff was engaged in clearing away the congealed oil, and in making preparations for pumping the stored oil over to the tank which the company has rented from the Taranaki Oil Wells, Limited. The pressure of gas in •the bore is still strong, but Mr. Fedorewiz does not anticipate any repetition of Sunday s ebullition.
