DISPLAY AT HELENSVILLE.

BIG CROWDS AND FINE WEATHER.

[bt telegraph.—own correspondent.] Helensville, Thursday. The fifteenth annual show of the Helensvillo Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was favoured by glorious weaiiier and a big holiday crowd. .Excursion trains from Auckland and furtnust northern stations, brought large contingents of visitors. The exhibitors caino from a wide area, tho districts between Pufcokohe and Northern VVairoa being well represented.' Tho quality in most sections was excellent, particularly horses, oattie, and sheep. The needlework and cookery exhibits were of outstanding merit, and were highly spoken of by good and experienced judges. Among tile awards in the draught horses, of which Mr. Allen Bent was judge, Davison Bros, won three firsts for tho entire, maro with foal, and foal classes. R. Nicholls secured three firsts, two seconds, and one third, and H. Aitkenhead two firsts, one second, and one third in blood stock, and R. Nicholls got two firsts and ope second, J. Flynn three firsts, and J. McLeod two firsts and one second. Among cattle exhibitors C. Straka had two firsts, two seconds, and three thirds, chiefly among Shorthorns. Sinton Bros, were first for pedigree Shorthorn bulls. In grade Shorthorns and fat cattle J. Jordan had two firsts and two seconds. For Ayrshire cattle Jas. McLeod took three firsts and one second; and for Holsteins J. Nicholls had five firsts, one second, and one third. G. W. Sim also scored several prizes. J. H. Hudson, R. Ferrall, and H. Aitkenhead were the chief winners in the dairy cow classes, and H. C. Henley, R. Ferrall, A. Syrcs, N. W. Rimmer, and Chas. Straka were the principal winners among the sheep. J. B. Jordan had four firsts and three seconds in Romney Marsh, G. T. Bayly had three first, four seconds, and one third, and Te Kopuru Estate gained two firsts and a championship, and also one second and one third, and G. T. Bayly two firsts and two seconds in the special classes for fat sheep. To Krpuru Estate got chief honours with three firsts for Berkshire pigs, and H. Aitkenh iad took two firsts and a second, and Davison Bros, one first. Anion? saddle horses E. P. Paul had three firsts and a third, W. H. Martion one first a championship, and two J. Reynard, tiro firsts and one third; and J. Flynn, two fir&ta, one second, and a third. In the hunter classes, F. Dye won the chief honours with four firsts, J. N. Kelly got one first and two seconds, W. H. Martin a first and a third, and J. Reynard one first and a second. The ladies' riding competition was won by Misn Fremlin, with Miss Hankin second. The winning gentleman rider was T. Callagher, with H. Newman second. Other competitions wore:—Lady astride; Miss Fremlin 1. Miss Flynn 2. Bareback (gentlemen): H. Newmnn 1, N. Swaffiold 3. Gentleman rider -never won first previously): N. W. Spragg 1. N. Swaffiald 2. Gentleman rider (Helensville Hunt Club): C. Kelly 1,. J. Reynard 2. Boy rider:, C. Kelly 1. There were a large number of exhibits in a large marquco under the headings of " farm and garden fruit," " horticultural produce," needlework," and "cookery classes," which were greatly admired during the day. The needlework and cookery classes, together with the splendid school exhibits, were of a high educational value, and won much admiration from visitors. The day's proceedings were a success in every way, and will doubtless encourage the Show Committee to | greater enterprise next year.

Among the visitors present were the Hon. W. H. Herries and Sir Joseph Ward, Bart. They were the guests of the association at luncheon. The president (Mr. . W. R. Johnson)' welcomed the visitors to Te Aroha. Mr. Herries and , Sir- Joseph Ward made vigorous speeches, the latter intimating that he would deliver a political speech in the hall. on Friday evening. , * : • ( . v . Mr. .F.
