Heabing that a mob at Raleigh (North Carolina) intended to. lynch a negro named Jim Wilson, who was in gaol on a charge of having murdered " a white woman, the authorities despatched the State militia .to prevent the outrage. -!: : * , i The mob got word that the militia had been sent, : and a race ensued to the gaol. The mob anticipated the troops, and taking the negro out of , his cell, strung him up to a tree, and riddled the body with bullets. '
