ENTERAINMENT.

LITTLE 80-PEEP, A pubtheb success was scored by the Royal Pantomime Company last, evening, when the third presentation of "' 80-Peep's was made at His Majesty's Theatre before a good attendance. The artistic ballets and delightful musical numbers'' of the piece were accorded applause; arid the whole production went with great "vivacity. Miss Elsie Nicolas, in the title role, was responsible for some good work. The pantomime will be repeated to-night and tomorrow night, and on Friday will 'be made the first Auckland production. of '"" Old Mother Hubbard." '[ "WITHIN THE LAW." •.: When Sir Herbert Tree decided to" stage "Within the Law" at the fashionable Haymarket Theatre, London, there was much head-shaking on the part of the. wiseacres, who did not , hesitate to declare openly '■ that a play of a distinctively American character like " Within the Law" would not be appreciated by London playgoers. Nothing dismayed,, Sir. Herbert Tree decided on the experiment,, with the result that the play was a pronounced success from the opening night-/ and' when the last mail left it had reached its 200 th. performance, and is still drawing crowded houses. So great was the interest aroused in this latest example of the virile. American drama, that all fashionable London, flocked to the Haymarket, and it was difficult to book seats weeks in advance. Royalty gave its patronage, rand a command performance was. given in -the presence of both the King and Queen. According to critics ' who' have .seen-both the London and Australian production, the latter in no way suffers by comparison.- In one respect, at least, there-''is? a _ distinct gain in favour of the Australian*- interpretation, inasmuch as the original American . atmosphere of the play is more strongly in evidence. This was brought about by. the special importation from 'New York of four of the leading players in that, city— Miss Muriel Starr, Miss Mary Worth, Mr. Lincoln Flumer, and Mr. E. W.":Morrison. The box plans for the "Anekland season, which commences" at- His Majesty's ' Theatre on Wednesday, February 4, will be opened at Wildman and Arey's on "Friday morning. ; . .- ' : OPERA HOUSE, .-.'-'.y Continued interest is .being §yjn~ce& in the current programme^ : at bhe,_:oi/era House.
