ATTACKED WITH A BATON.

ESCAPE OF ASSAILANT.

POINT CHEVALIER INCIDENT.

A man named William Pratt, employed in the Point Chevalier district, received injuries to his face and head early this morning when going to the rescue of a woman he heard screaming. Pratt was working in the vicinity of Parr Road just before one o'clock, when he was disturbed by a woman's screams. He immediately went to investigate the matter, and came upon a man apparently ill-treating his (Pratt's) wife ivnd another woman.

The man is said to have turned upon Pratt when the latter interfered, and struck liira several blows with a variety of baton. Pratt received a cut about two inches long above the left eye, as well as bruises about the head. His assailant escaped before the police arrived.
