MAIN TRUNK SENSATION.
MAN JUMPS FROM TRAIN. BRUISES THE ONLY INJURY.[by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wanganiti, Friday. A man named Frederick Becker, alias Alfred Anderson, caused a sensation on the Main Trunk line last evening, when travelling between Porewa and Marton. It appears that he committed an offensive act, and that the guard notified Becker of his intention to give him in charge on arrival at Marton. The man was insolent at first, but subsequently went through the train to the guard, and begged the latter to allow the matter to drop. The guard, however, maintained the-position he had assumed, and told the man that in the interests of the travelling public he would, be obliged to report the occurrence. Becker then took a ran and jumped off the train, and as he was seen to fall over it was thought that he had been killed.
The train was immediately stopped, but it was foand that beyond being severely bruised he escaped without further injury. Upon arrival at Marton he was given in custody, and at the Marton Court this morning he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Becker had a. number of other convictions against him.
