ATHLETICS.

EXHIBITION CARNIVAL.

ARRIVAL OF AMERICAN TEAM

The American athletes who are to compete at the Exhibition carnival at the Domain to-morrow arrived from the South by the Main Trunk express yesterday afternoon. They were met at the station by officials of the Auckland centre of tie N.Z.A.A. Association, and afterwards taken to the Royal Hotel, where they have taken up their quarters. Late in the afternoon toe visitors exercised at the Domain in the presence of a fair crowd of enthusiasts. Caughey, who has already established fresh Australasian figures for shot-putting, had little difficulty in putting 45ft, which is also better than the Australasian record. Power, the distance runner, covered seven laps of a two-mile, run at a slow pace, but finished up with a. fast sprint over the final quarter. The visitor's style was very impressive, his arm work especially being a revelation. Templeton contented himself with short sprints and a solid 220 yds run. He did not practice jumping. Parker had his first rim since his accident, but he did not do any fast work. In all probability he will be a competitor to-morrow. At the Chamber of Conr.nerce this evening Mr. Peixotto. manager of the American team. is to deliver a lecture on "Athletics, Training Methods, and Recreation .Grounds." Considerable interest was taken in the lecture in the South, and it is expected that there will be a big crowd of enthusiasts present this evening. Admission will be free.
