WATERSPOUT NEAR GORE.
SHEEP SWEPT AWAY. FIELD SURFACES REMOVED. RAILWAY LINE DISPLACED. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Gore, Friday. A severe thunderstorm visited Gore and the adjacent district this afternoon. A waterspout burst over- a farm near Waikaka Valley, and inundated several farms. Sixty sheep were drowned and fences were carried away. A large paddock drilled for turnips was levelled, and the surface carried to the lowest part, which was covered with silt to a depth of four or five feet. It is reported that the railway line shifted four or five feet. The phenomenon burst on farmers unawares. They were taken completely by surprise, and could do nothing but look on as the stock were washed away. There was 14ft of water in some gullies. A few miles away there, was no rain at all.
