A clause which has been added to the Government's " Washing-up Bill " provides for the constitution of a Lake Takapu'na Board of Control, consisting of five ■, members. The board will consist of the ■ : ' Commissioner of Crown Lands as chairvman, and four members to be appointed respectively by the Devonport; Birken- ' ' head,' Northcote, and Takapmia Borough Councils. r ,v • ■', ,-.,. The board is to have powers subject to regulations to be made by Order-in-Council , Jn.regard to: (a) Conserving the supply .. of water in the lake, (b) regulating the ~ output , of water,; (c) mainlining the purity of the water, and (d) fixing the charges for the water. The money received • from, the sale of water shall be • .paid into the Consolidated Fund, and all -. .expenses.incurred by the board shall be paid out of/money to be appropriated• by .Parliament for the purpose. ... In reply 'to' Sir Joseph Ward last night the Prime Minister said that tho lake was ■ part of Crown lands. It 'was'going down,. and it was necessary to do some- [. thing to conserve it, and to regulate tho -~ output. The new provision would not affect any private rights.
