Following upon the recent riots between the military and civilians in Zabcrn, an Alsatian recruit has been sentenced to six weeks' solitary confinement, and two others to three weeks' solitary confinement for communicating Lieutenant von Foerstnor's remarks to the newspapers. The lieutenant was said to have given his men the advice to go out and stab Alsatian "vagabonds," and to have offered them a reward for doing so.

INSULTING AN OFFICER. SWORD SLASH THE PENALTY. Londok, December 3. The indiscreet young German officer who was responsible for all the trouble figured in' another incident yesterday. He was putting a number of men through their facings out in the open. at Dettwoiler (Alsace), when some insulting remarks were addressed to him. In obedience to orders, some of the soldiers went to arrest the offenders, whereupon a boot operative,' one Black, began to make threats of what he would do to Lieutenant von Foerstner. < Lance-corporal Wiss started in pursuit of Black, who, when captured, thrust his hand into a pocket in which a knife was afterwards found. , While the lance-corporal was trying to secure Black, the latter made a rush at Lieutenant von Foerstner, who whipped out his sword and slashed his assailant on the head, inflicting an ugly wound about sin long. Black was taken into custody, and the occurrence was afterwards reported to the Burgomaster. The whole of Alsace is now more excited than over.
