LIBERAL SECESSION.
M.P. ATTACKS CHANCELLOR LAND POLICY OPPOSED. ~ . i By Telegraph— Association— Copyright (Received December 12, 6 p.m.) London, December 12. v The Government's land policy was hotly denounced yesterday by Sir A. B. Markham (Liberal M.P. for the Mansfield division of Nottinghamshire). The speaker declared that Mr. Lloyd George (Chancellor of the Exchequer) took extreme cases as tho average in depicting tyrannical landlords. He accused the Chancellor of deliberately torpedoing the Bill, granting the franchise to women, on the ground that the extension of the franchise to women would be against the voting interest of the Liberals. The National Land and Housing Council is the name bestowed upon the new organisation that has been formed to conduct a campaign in support of the Government's land reform programme. The Marquis of Lincolnshire, who, as Lord Car. rington, was formerly Governor of New South Wales, has accepted the post of president of the council.
