The following resolution was passed by ■;;'. the Presbyterian Assembly in connection .;;• with the trouble in the New Hebrides: •'.'. "That tho assembly expresses its deep .'sympathy with tho missionaries of New . 'Hebrides in their trial and vexations, and '-'with the natives in their Bufferings under ■-the condominium Government; that the ■ Foreign Mission Committee be instructed £-, to lay the facts of the case before the' 1 Government, and urge them to take such steps as may conduce to the termination . of the evils of which the missionaries comV plain." ; [. Mr. P. L. Clarke, of Dunedin (hon. secretary to the Foreign Mission Committee), who had recently visited the group, spoko of the conditions prevailing, and gave instances of cruelties and virtual slavery inflicted on natives that had been brought under his notice.
