The, discussion on the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill was continued after midnight on Thursday. The Prime Minister, the Hon. W. F. Massey, moved a new sub-clause providing that fresh land of equal value shall be substituted as national endowment for any land taken at Ohakune. This overcame the objection, and the Bill was passed through the Oommitteo stage without further difficulty. In reply to Mr. T. H. Davey, Mr. Massey said the House would have an opportunity of voting on tho question of a weekly holiday for hotel workers in the Shops and Offices Bill this session. All the Bills put through Committee were read a third time and passed. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher gave notice of his intention of introducing the Monopolies Prevention Bill. The amendments made, by the Legislative Council in the Police Force Bill were agreed to, and the House rose at 12.50 a.m. Mr. Massev introduced the Labour Disputes Investigation Bill. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. CONTAGIOUS DISEASES. [BY telkgran;\—press ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. The Legislative Conucil met at 2.30 p.m. In reply to the Hon. Dr. Collins, the Hon. H. D. Bell stated that the Govern-, ment would, during the recess, go into the question of setting up a Royal Commission to inquire into the prevalence or otherwise of certain contagious diseases in tho Dominion, In reply to the Hon. J. D. Ormond, Mr. Bell- said he agreed with the view that the Te Ante Lake Block should be utilised for settlement purposes, but the Public Trustee did not consider the security was sufficient. In further reply to Mr. Ormond he said he did not quite know what was meant by security. The Customs Bill, the Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill, the Native Land Claims Adjustment Amendment Bill, and the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, were introduced and read a first time., The Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill was read a second time, and during the Committee stage the, Hon. J. D. Ormond protested against the sale of the Napier prison site as the land should be placed at the disposal of the borough. Mr. Bell advised Mr. Ormond to communicate with the Mayor of Napier, but in the meantime he said the Government must take power to deal with the land. The Bill was reported with amendments. The amendments mado in the Tramways Bill were not agreed with, and the Hons. Sir William Hall-Jones, J. Duthie, and J. Barr were appointed managers to confer with the managers of the Lower House. Tho Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill was read a second time en the motion of the Hon. H. D. Bell. Progress was made in Committee. (Left sitting.)
