w HANtfSWORTH UNITED. WINDING UP COMPANY. " That the Handsworth United Gold Mia- < ing Company should be wound up voluntarily under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1908," was the resolution car--1 ried at the meeting of shareholders held yesterday afternoon, and presided over by Mr. W. C. Somers. The mine manager • Mr. Ingles, was present, and reported that the outlook of the mine was by no means reassuring, and in his opinion did not warrant the further carrying on of the works. During the last six months the work had been merely of a prospective nature, and the only remaining hope was to sink, which would require machinery. He therefore consdered it to be in the best interests of the shareholders that the company should be wound up. THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD. Upon the completion of the work for which the Thames Deep Levels Board is responsible, in a few months' time, it will be unnecessary for the Deep Levels Board to remain in existence. This was, the opinion expressed by the chairman/ Mr. C. Hudson, at the meeting of the Thames Drainage Board which was held yesterday. The supervisory duties of the Deep Levels Board could, he said, be very well undertaken by the Drainage Board. Probably the execution of such an arrangement would hare to be done by Order-in-Coun-cil. He moved that the Deep Levels Board be written to suggesting that when its work was finished the Drainage Board would bo willing to assume its duties and responsibilities of supervision and upkeep, and that it would be advisable to set the consent of the Government towards this end This would save the expense of two authorities. The motion was carried. The statement of finances showed a credit balance of £350 14s sd. The chairman said a large proportion of this sum was contingent upon whether the board received the whole of the outstanding dues. It was not known yet whether these would be paid or not. The engineer reported that all the machinery was continuing to run satisfactorily. The chairman stated that the had ascertained that it was compulsory for the engineer to the board to have a marine engineer's certificate. This was not the law, But was a Government regulation, and was one of the conditions under which the board was allowed to use its plant. • THAMES WARDEN'S COURT.
