THE TRAMWAY SERVICE.

VICTORIA AVENUE CARS.

IMPROVED TIME-TABLE.

The tramway service on rthe Victoria i Avenue line has for some time past supplied much cause for complaint amongst residents of the avenue, and recently a deputation from the Remuera Road Board waited on Mr. J. J. Wafflate, manager of the Tramways Company, with a request for an improved service. At last night's meeting of the board Mr. Walklate forwarded a number of suggested amendments. One of the chief improvements was that the service should be a 34-minute one throughout, instead of a 40minute one as formerly, the first car from Ponsonby and Victoria Avenue starting at 6.50 a.m., or 10 minutes later than before. An extra car which would leave the bottom of the avenue at 10.42 p.m. direct for the city and two cars leaving the city direct to the bottom of the avenue at 5.14 p.m. and 11.15 p.m., via Parnell, were included. Another suggested improvement oh the old service was that cars from the avenue should connect with other cars at Newmarket. Six stopping places were provided for in the avenue, instead of foul - , as formerly. With regard to minimum car fares, Mr. Walklate stated that it was doubtful whether this would be of any advantage in view of the present very full service which was run between the city and Remuera, but if the board still considered a minimum fare advisable, the Tramways Company will give prompt attention to any suggestions submitted. * A discussion followed the reading of the letter, the members of the board being unanimous in the opinion that the new time-table was a distinct improvement on the old one, though still further improvements were desirable. It was, however, decided to give the new service a trial "in 'the meantime." The question of Tmrnmnm fares was not discussed. GREY LYNN COMPLAINTS. Complaint was made at the meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough Council last evening that the tramcars in the district were not running according to the time-table. Mr. T. L. Thompson gave an instance in which he said a particular car only ran to the twopenny section instead of going on to Richmond. " When I questioned tho motorman," said Mr. Thompson, "as to the reason for this, be informed me that he had received instructions to go only to the twopenny section, so that time could be made up." After some discussion Mr. Thompson was asked to prepare a report with a view to the matter being brought before the Tramways Company. DOMINION ROAD AND MT. EDEN.

The tram services of Dominion Road and Mount Eden, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. have been the cause of much complaint recently. The manager of the Tramways Company was written to, and the Mount Eden Borough Council has received a reply stating that a car will run from Wellesley Street for Mount Eden at 5.17 p.m. It was pointed out by Mr. J. E. Shackelford! that anyone wishing to take a car between these hours had to walk to the bottom of Queen Street. The manager of the Tramways Company will be requested to run two extra cars from Wellesley Street to Dominion Road during the busy evening hours.
