Tee Grey Lynn Borough Council met last evening- Thefe were present: The Mayor (Mr. G. Bail don), Messrs. T. L. Thompson, J. A. Warnock, W. Donald, G. J. Garland, F. Brinsden, E. Cart, and J. W. Tattersfield. The secretary of the Local Bodies' Union of Workers wrote expressing appreciation of the council's observance of the award recently entered into. The Mayor remarked that it paid the council to act fairly by its employees. The dedication of a piece of land given by Mr. John Geddea for the purpose of widening Princess Street. Richmond, was approved. The Finance and Fire Brigades Committees were authorised to inspect the fire brigade on Thursday evening. MOUNT EDEN. There were present at a meeting of members of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening tna Mayor (Mr. O. Nicholson) and Messrs. C. Hudson, E. H. Porter, D. Meime, ji. Seabroofc, J. W. Shackelford, J. W. Woolley, a Bums, F. P. flooton, B. Grayson, i 5. l'ates, and A. J. Lee. During the last three weeks permits have been granted to erect 14 houses. Bleps are being taken by the council to enforce the by-law in regard to the keeping of fowls. The manager of the Tramways Company agreed to the request of the council that the tram-stop at Brixton Road should be removed to Dorter Avenue. Several coiupiainta were made to the Health Department in regard to the tip at the old quarry on the side of Mount Eden The District Health Officer (Dr MonU) visited the locality, and reported to the council that the tip was in as clean a condition as any tip round Auckland, and there was no evidence of nuisano6. No rats were in evidence. MOUNT ALBERT. A meeting of the Mount Albert Borough council was held last evening, and attended by .the Mayor (Mr. M J Coy lei and Messrs. bridges. Page, Turner. Mr Clay brought up the matter of supplying water to a number of persons who had bousht allotments on Cribble's Estate, on B-dendale Road, and who were unable to build until water was available. These new estates were being steadily built on, and it was very difficult to finance the extension of the water service as fast as it was required . Mr Harrison wanted the matter of supplying the cost of special temporary extensions of the water system referred to the Finance Committee, and an arrangement made by which persons proposing to build on new streets could at once get a fairly definite bstima<£ of the cost of a special supply of water. The Mayor said that the council had determined to do away with temporary waterlines. . The matter of extending the wa.or mams in the direction required would shortly have to receive the very serious attention of the council. ONEHUNQA. It was resolved that the matter be considered in committee.

Messrs. Wynjrard and Skelton, solicitors to the Mangeie itoad r>oard, demanded that the council deposit within 14 aays to the CTodit of the board £3412 10a, as its contribution towards the cost of the new Mangere Bridge. On the motion of the Mayor it was deridbd to reply that the council would pay its share of whatever progress payments were authorised on certificate up till the finish oi the bridge contract. Am bury and Co., Limited, wrote stating that they had paid £10 wheel-tax on two vehicles, but had also to pay to the City Cpuncil under the new regulations. They therefore asked for a rebate for the .two waggons. The Mayor stated that he would not favour any, rebate where vehicles did the bulk of business in Onehunga. He objected to the City Council " bluff," and would defend any local firm prosecuted by that body.

OTAHUHU. A meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Messrs. H. J. Hall (deputy-Mayor), R. L. Absolum, J. Atkinson, J. Brad?, A. Lowe, W. J. OHara, and J. Wilson A letter was read from the Mount Wellington Road Board asking if the council would agree to share half the expense of repairing Portage Road on the Mangere principle, at a cost of £20. It was decided to meet representatives of the Mount Wellington Board to view the road. The secretary of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote asking for a definite reply to his letter in regard to riparian rights on the Manukau Harbour, and stating that if a reply was not received in four weeks the association intended to make an estimate of the value of its riparian rights, irrespective of the council. The council decided not to take any further action in the matter. The Ol&hnhu Rowing Club asked the council's permission to erect a boatihed at the bottom of Princes Street. The clerk was instructed to reply that the council had no objection The Mangere Road Board's solicitor wrote requesting the council to pay its sharo of the cost of constructing the new Mangere Bridge within 14 days The council's sharo would be £682 10a, providing the Government contributed £3000. The clerk was ordered to acknowledge the receipt of the letter, which was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. ' The Water and Drainage Committee reported that in conjunction with the Mayor they had considered the matter of plastering the inside of the water supply tank, and the pumping engineer had submitted proposals enabling the work to bo done without interfering with the tower supply. The engineer had also submitted a plan for increasing the storage capacity by two-thirds, by utilising the base of the tower for another tank. As those proposals would necessitate expenditure the committee recommended that the Finance and Legal Committee join them in considering the matter, and reporting to the council. The report was adopted.
