ST. JOHN'S SALE OF WORK.

The St. John's Sale of Work and Floral Fair was formally opened yesterday afternoon by Mr. A. C. Caughey in tho St. John's schoolroom, Ponsonby Road. In the course" of his opening address, Mr. Caughey stated that he greatly favoured such methods of raising funds in that they afforded persons of meagre means an opportunity of helping tho church in such a worthy object— namely, the elimination of the trust debt. He congratulated the committee on its unsparing elfort3, which had succeeded in producing such an artistic and striking display, and concluded by remarking that the beautiful day with which they were favoured should act. as an incentive to tho buying faculties of the visitors. Tho schoolroom presented a pretty spectacle, and was filled by an enthusiastic throng. The various stalls were: — Ladies' Guild fancywork siall (Mrs. Price), Sunday-school miscellaneous stall (Mrs. Pierce), refreshment kiosk (Mrs. Blomiicld and Miss Leek), sweets stall and fruit stall (Mrs. Campion), flower stall (Misses Allison, Laurie,- and Hooper), Christmas tree (MiBS Hodkinson), art gallery and museum, and various side-shows in marquco (Mr. Pierce). In the evening a Pierrot entertainment was given, while to-night the musical programme will be supplied by the Maori students of Three Kings College. Tho fair will close to-morrow evening with a concert under the direction of Mr. Raynor White.
