LACROSSE.

NOTES AND COMMENTS, Tho play-off for the premiership between Ponsonby and North Shore takes place at Victoria Park this afternoon at three o'clock. Each team has played 10 matches and has only suffered defeat once, which is a very creditable performance when it is considered that Grafton, West End, and Auckland are by no means weak. The match, which will bo under the control of Mr. H. McCoy, should be an even, hard-fought contest, and, given a fine day, somo fine lacrosse should be seon. The Ponsonby-West End game on Saturday was fairly interesting. The winners, thanks to McCoskrie and in a lesser degree Brinsden, made more use of the chances that camo their way. Crouch, centre, was prominent all through. Aldred has improved, and he passed more accurately than did his second and third homes. Lush shows promise for next season. Kelly, Bowring. and Jenkins were safe. Easily the best of the losers was Edwards (goal). Graham was always in the lead, while Coaker and Heather did eomo smart work wing attacking. Higginbotbam, a new man, was a smart second home. The Grafton team, under the managership of Mr. Roche, left last night for Whitianga, where they will play a match to-day. Mr. Edward Kelly has gone down to control the game. The visiting team, which Mr. Stewart will captain, will play a local team led by Dr. Eode. The Ponsonby captain, Nolan, will be unable to take the field to-day owing to a severe sinew strain.
