MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Manukau County Council met yesterday. There were present: Messrs. H. R. McKenzie (chairman), F. H. Brownhill, J. C. Bryant, A. D. Bell, A. E. Hattaway and Captain Colbeck.
The chairman announced that he had approached the Otahuhu people to see if they would, with the Manukau Council, jointly contribute towards the cost of an overhead bridge at the railway to. give the Mangero people access to the station. The Otahuhu people however, were not prepared to contribute. He felt that the work was really one for the Government, and he was not in favour of establishing a precedent by committing his council to do the work unless Otahuhu was also prepared to contribute.
The Public Works Department wrote authorising tho expenditure of the balanco of the vote amounting to ego 11a 2d, the £ for £ grant for tho Great South Road in the Papakura Road District. The foreman was instructed to report at the nest, meeting as to the best moans of expending the money on the road.
The matter of endeavouring to obtain a Government grant for the proposed Mangere and Panmaro Bridges was left in the hands of the chairman and Captain Colbeck, who stated that they would bo in Wellington shortly, when they would have an opportunity of interviewing the Minister on the subject. It was announced that the cost of the Maagere Bridge would lie £2i>,00, and of the Paiiniure Bridge £15,000. '
